If pigeons were roosting on the eaves of the asphalt shingle roof that cover's your garage and bird droppings and feathers are stuck in the corners of the eaves and have stained some of the asphalt shingles on the rooftop, clean the affected areas and install bird spikes to prevent pigeons from creating a mess again.

- long-handled brush (stiff bristles)
- oxygenated bleach
- water hose
- backpack garden sprayer
- tape measure
- plastic bird spikes
Use a Handheld Vacuum Cleaner to Collect Feathers
After erecting a ladder next to the garage, put on a pair of shoes that have non-skid soles and secure a safety harness around your body. Anchor the harness to a permanent fixture on your property so that you do not injure yourself due to falling off of the ladder. Use drop cloths to cover the ground that is underneath the side of the roof that you will be cleaning. Carry a handheld vacuum cleaner that is battery-operated up the ladder. Use the vacuum cleaner to collect loose feathers from the eaves and rooftop.
Treat Stains on Shingles & Eaves
Climb down the ladder and fill a backpack garden sprayer's tank with a cleaning agent that is prepared with equal amounts of oxygenated bleach, roofing detergent, and water. Secure the sprayer's straps over your shoulders and line the tank up so that it rests comfortably against the center of your back. Ascend the ladder and point the tank's nozzle at bird dropping stains that are on the rooftop. Squeeze the tank's trigger until the cleaning agent is released. Saturate stains on shingles, as well as stains that are stuck in the corners of the eaves.
Install Plastic Spikes
Use a water hose to rinse the rooftop and eaves. Wait for surfaces to dry. Measure the length and width of the area where pigeons were previously roosting. Purchase plastic spikes that are secured to a base. After climbing the ladder, line the strip of spikes up along the eaves. Use a power drill to install hardware pieces through the corners of the base and the material that the eaves are constructed of.
Maintain the condition of the roof by periodically removing debris from shingles. A scrub brush can be used to eliminate residue that has hardened on surfaces. After cleaning a rooftop, use a water hose to rinse the surface of roofing materials.
